Ghostwriting and Writing Blog

It’s been a long time coming…and it is for many ghostwriters out there.  It’s so easy to become a ghostwriter (once you know how.)  It’s so easy that you feel safe…there is guaranteed income so long as you maintain your clients and get the work.

However, there is a REASON that people hire ghostwriters, and that’s because they earn more money than they pay out in fees.  This is clearly obvious, though it’s so hard to make the leap.  When you know the mortgage payment is looming, it’s way too scary to take on your own projects that lack that all-important guarantee.

Well, recently I’ve decided enough is enough.  If I want to move my online income to the next level I simply have to start writing for myself.  That means writing articles for article marketing, writing free viral reports,  and revving up my PayPerClick campaigns.

Don’t get me wrong, I love writing for clients.  And I often do side projects to build my business after I finish the “guaranteed” stuff.  I need to do more of this.  Clearly, it’s the best option as I’ve already seen after having done a mini product launch over at the Warrior Forum.

One person who I’ve been following for a while is Jason Fladlien.  When I bought one of his products I realized that he went through this same thing and came out blooming.  His business is going really well!  I wrote an e-mail asking his advice and he replied back with some great wisdom.

As we enter the second half of 2008, it’s up to me to put that wisdom into action…the wisdom that takes a leap of faith, but that can be so much more rewarding.

Writers, it’s time to take control of your business!  Let’s get some more passive income out there

First of all, I can’t believe how far I’ve come in this past year.  If you look back to many of my early posts you’ll see that I was floating here and there and wondering how I was going to make enough money to stay home with my son.  That was my goal and it still is.  I don’t know what I would have done if it weren’t for ghostwriting, it’s literally the answer I was looking for.

I’ve come across a lot of friends and family who are amazed that I’m able to work from home and earn such a good income.  This kind of opportunity wasn’t available even a few short years ago.  I’m constantly telling people what I do and that they can do it too!

If you’re a mom or a dad and you don’t think you can earn a living online…you can!  There are so many ways that you can work it so you meet or exceed the income you’re currently making at your job.

Here are just a few ways:

•  Become a ghostwriter
• Become a Copywriter
• Offer your services as a transcriptionist
• Offer link building services
• Design websites for offline businesses
• Drive traffic to customer’s websites
• Design graphics

You’ll probably notice that all of the things I mentioned are service based businesses.  The reason for that is simple…you can literally start offering your services today and receive Paypal payments today.  It’s that easy.  I can’t remember the exact figure but when I started out last October I earned roughly $1000 in my first week or so.  People lined up because I was offering something they needed.

So…if you’re lost about how to make this online thing work, you just don’t want to send the kids to daycare anymore, or you’re struggling financially.  This could be the answer for you.

How many of you have an overwhelming inbox?  I do!

There are definitely days where I dread even opening the darn thing because it’s going to be so overflowing.  I am well aware this has caused me lost business with my ghostwriting in the past.  I’m very good about getting back to current clients but there have been a few cases where I’ve gotten a query, meant to reply to it, and then found it later when it was too late.

I was thinking of getting myself a helpdesk system from preventing this sort of thing.  It would also help if I would commit myself to answering e-mails immediately or not opening them until I’m able to answer.

How many of you have those e-mail inboxes that just won’t quit?  If you have a solution, I’d love to hear it!

Running an online business is also tough because you do get people who freak out if you don’t answer right away.  So while I have been lax sometimes, I also think that people deserve a good 24 hour window to answer an e-mail.  More if it’s over a weekend or something like that.

I really love writing ebooks and articles…mostly because of the freedom it brings me and my family.  I also enjoy researching different subjects and really digging down to find the best research to bring to my assignment. BUT, there are those times where it all seems to drag and drag…and sometimes I find myself wanting to try something different.

I decided to get into copywriting a little while back, party for this reason!

I know that copywriting is sort of the cornerstone of the Internet.  If you want to make sales, you’d better know at least a little about writing copy.  When I made this choice a few months ago I went to Amazon and bought several books on writing copy, bought a few online ones, a membership to the Copy Doctor and studied my buns off.

I’m having a great time with it!  It’s hard breaking into the world of copy…there are definitely a subset of copywriters who think they are the be all end all and that everyone else is incompetent.  But I’ve also met some incredibly helpful people who’ve gone out of their way to help me succeed.  Rachel Rofe Especially (love her!)

I have a few copy clients now…and it’s kind of funny.  They came to me for copy before I even advertised that I’m doing it.  It was kind of “meant to be.”

So, if you find your writing getting stale, and the wonderful world of writing copy sounds appealing to you, don’t be intimidated.  Get started!  Yes, it’s tough to write a good sales letter.  But with the right dedication and support you can do it in no time.

Uh Oh! If you remember back months ago…I think in October I joined Wealthy Affiliate. Well, I LOVE that membership site and it’s really a great community and learning resource. I’m seeing steady affiliate commissions from the things I’ve learned there

They are raising their price come May 6th!! It’s now a very low fee per month…but the owners say they are going to raise it substantially because they’ve been undercharging. Ahhhh! I’m the worst. Posting the blog was on my to do list everyday…and then it became like the friend you’re supposed to call forget about…then you don’t call because it’s been too long…which makes it even longer and more awkward

I AM still doing the MMO, I’m just up to my ears in ghostwriting. I ran a WSO (warrior special offer on the Warrior Forum) and got some GREAT new clients. I’m having a blast. Plus, I just bought a product called “Omnifocus” (it’s just for Mac…) and it’s really helping me with my scheduling, I highly recommend it.

I promise to post more results from Mission, Make Money Online, but first I need a favor from you all.

I am still here

I’m still following through with my Kevin Riley Mission.  One of the videos  talks about the importance of having a schedule.  If you remember back to some of my original posts you’ll notice that scheduling is one of my big problems.  It’s hard to schedule yourself when you have an 8 month old.  BUT that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.  And you (and I) are fooling ourselves if we think that you can run an online business without maintaining a schedule.

Keven Riley has “kicked my butt” once again.  I have a wacky schedule…work a little here…work a little there…browse a some forums there…check my e-mail (X 25)…

It’s bad news.  And I can see how it is limiting my profits.  If you want to have a great online business you need to have a schedule.

I’m really enjoying my Mission, let’s hope that I can keep to my schedule to see it pay off
