First of all, I can’t believe how far I’ve come in this past year. If you look back to many of my early posts you’ll see that I was floating here and there and wondering how I was going to make enough money to stay home with my son. That was my goal and it still is. I don’t know what I would have done if it weren’t for ghostwriting, it’s literally the answer I was looking for.
I’ve come across a lot of friends and family who are amazed that I’m able to work from home and earn such a good income. This kind of opportunity wasn’t available even a few short years ago. I’m constantly telling people what I do and that they can do it too!
If you’re a mom or a dad and you don’t think you can earn a living online…you can! There are so many ways that you can work it so you meet or exceed the income you’re currently making at your job.
Here are just a few ways:
- Become a ghostwriter
- Become a Copywriter
- Offer your services as a transcriptionist
- Offer link building services
- Design websites for offline businesses
- Drive traffic to customer’s websites
- Design graphics
You’ll probably notice that all of the things I mentioned are service based businesses. The reason for that is simple…you can literally start offering your services today and receive Paypal payments today. It’s that easy. I can’t remember the exact figure but when I started out last October I earned roughly $1000 in my first week or so. People lined up because I was offering something they needed.
So…if you’re lost about how to make this online thing work, you just don’t want to send the kids to daycare anymore, or you’re struggling financially. This could be the answer for you.

Hi
I am so glad to have found your blog. I am a mom to a 1 year old and just got started as a freelance ghost writer about 5 months ago (wow… it has been that long?) but I am in a bit of a rut right now. I want to get higher paying work but I am not sure how to go about. A lot of the ads I see are for very low paying jobs. I know I need to make my own website and I am working on that but when you started out, where did you offer your services? I feel like I am selling myself too short. I have gotten some good paying gigs but I find myself toiling away for low paying articles just to make money and then not having enough time to try to get better work. Any suggestions?
Thank you and I just became a subscriber!
Hi Kathleen
Thanks for stopping by!
I can honestly say that none of my jobs have come from an ad — they are astonishingly low from what I’ve seen!
When I first got ghostwriting jobs it came as a result of making connections with marketers and business owners. It’s very easy to do
For example, the Warrior Forum is an AWESOME forum where there are tons of marketers who are looking for ghostwriters all the time. You can become a part of the community and post a link to your writing services in your signature file. You can also run a “Warrior Special Offer” once you’ve been there for a little while to get clients fast, at a price you set.
My earliest clients came from the Earn 1 K a Day forum — and many still do! I love that membership site
You have to pay for this one, but it’s well worth it for the connections you make and the jobs you can get as a result.
You can also join Twitter, Facebook, etc, and comment on your writing and link to your writing site. You will often find (by becoming friends with marketers and business owners) that people need content!
You don’t have to rely on jobs that are posted in ads. You really can make your own opportunities
I hope this helps you some! It’s all about the connections
Thank you Jenn!
I am really interested in going down this path so I am glad to have found someone who is already much further ahead in the game to learn from. I am also interested in online marketing. I really am just fed up with responding to ads. I will check those forums out for sure and see where it takes me.
Thanks again!
Oh and I am sorry but I have one more question. If you prefer, you can email me to answer this one. I am wondering what the going rate is for an SEO article of 400-700 words? I want to offer reasonable rates so I was thinking $10-$15 is okay. Do you think that is reasonable? Sorry because I know you are very busy but again, I am worried about selling myself too short.
Hi Kathleen,
That’s fairly low…actually, I’d say it’s average. I wouldn’t charge the same for a 400 word article as a 700 word article — I always charge by the word.
For example, I usually quote people 5 cents per word. My 400 word articles are $20 and my 700 word articles are $35.
Charging by the word makes things easy, and you get compensated for the extra time you spend.
I will say that I started off a lot lower, and worked my way up. If you are just breaking in and want to build a portfolio of testimonials for your future site, you can do the same
Start with what your comfortable with…but definitely work your way up!
Thanks again!
That is good to know. I already have a couple of clients I can get testimonials from but I could certainly use more. I was browsing the Warrior forum and found people charging very, very low prices for articles so that was a bit discouraging. Although I am sure there have to be some people out there who are willing to pay more for better quality! I am still unsure about whether I should join the 1K a day forum because I am wondering if I can make my investment in it back easily. I guess I will try my luck with the Warrior forum first and see how that goes!
Thank you for your advice! I will let you know how it goes
